Founded by Cheryl Johns, an experienced yard manager, marketing advisor, and business consultant, LiveryList combines real industry experience with professional expertise. With over 21 years in the equestrian sector and an HND in Equine Studies and Business Management, Cheryl has spent the last 15 years dedicated to helping yard owners manage and grow successful, compliant, and sustainable businesses.
Through the development of the Yard Owner Hub, and collaborations with key equestrian organisations, charities, and businesses, Cheryl and LiveryList have become industry-recognised points of contact for all things yard-related—promoting best practice, raising standards, and supporting professional development through initiatives like the ProYard Mentorship Scheme and YardWise.

LiveryList, established in 2011, is the UK’s leading directory of livery yards and equestrian establishments. What makes LiveryList unique is that all listings are submitted and managed directly by yard owners, helping to fill thousands of vacancies each year. Featuring listings for livery yards, riding schools, training venues, and facility hire, LiveryList provides an affordable, trusted, and widely recognised platform for yard owners to promote their businesses. With a growing user base and a strong social media presence, it continues to be the go-to directory for equestrians across the UK.
Industry Representation
Cheryl works as a consultant with a range of businesses, organisations, and charities across the equestrian industry, helping them to better understand the needs of business owners while educating horse and yard owners on best practice, compliance, and sustainability in all aspects of yard, equine, and client management. Through her consultancy and project work, Cheryl has developed strong relationships with numerous equestrian bodies, associations, and charities throughout the UK, as well as a broad network of yard owners and industry professionals. She is also regularly consulted by industry and government bodies, as well as media publications, for expert insight on key developments affecting the sector, including licensing proposals, equine identification, and welfare legislation.


BETA Membership
Since 2022, LiveryList has proudly been an Associate Member of the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA). As a member body of British Equestrian, BETA is recognised by the Government and leading equestrian organisations as the official representative body for the equestrian trade. Membership provides LiveryList with an internationally respected affiliation, while BETA’s work in lobbying on policy, legislation, and regulatory matters helps ensure that our interests—and those of the wider industry—are represented within the broader business landscape.
Industry Association Partnerships
Cheryl works in collaboration with several equestrian associations and British Equestrian member bodies to promote industry standards for livery yards, riding schools, and equestrian establishments. This includes partnerships with the ABRS+ (Association of British Riding Schools) and the British Horse Society to promote approved centres across the LiveryList platform and to support the development of their membership propositions. Cheryl also works alongside other key organisations such as the Equestrian Employers Association and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) to help raise awareness of the valuable support, guidance, and resources they provide within the industry.


ProYard Mentorship
To provide bespoke support for yard owners and their individual circumstances, the ProYard Mentorship Scheme was launched in 2023. This programme offers one-to-one guidance, allowing yard owners and managers to draw on Cheryl’s expertise, experience, and skills to improve and develop their businesses. Mentorship sessions are affordable and tailored, whether you need support with a specific challenge, guidance on developing or transforming your business, or ad-hoc advice on day-to-day yard management. These sessions offer valuable, practical support to help owners run successful and sustainable equestrian establishments.
Industry Consultancy
Cheryl was previously a Director at ABRS+ (The Association of British Riding Schools), where she helped develop the Certified and Approved Livery Yard membership, launched in 2021 and now representing 30% of their membership. She also led the organisation’s rebrand and improvements to member propositions.
Since 2018, Cheryl has acted as a campaign consultant for organisations including Redwings Horse Sanctuary and SEIB Insurance Brokers, supporting their equestrian offerings. She has also advises pharmaceutical, welfare, and educational associations, including the BHS, DEFRA and the CED, providing expertise in webinars, market research, focus groups, and panel discussions.


Yard Owner Hub Resources
Launched as a standalone resource in 2021, the Yard Owner Hub is recognised by the industry as a trusted reference point for yard owners and equestrian professionals. The Hub offers guidance, support, templates, and resources covering all practical and administrative aspects of yard management. Developed in collaboration with leading equestrian organisations, associations, and charities, it has become a hugely popular and reliable resource, with all content completely free to access and use.
YardWise
Developed in 2025 in partnership with The Equestrian Index and AnimalWeb, YardWise is a collaborative initiative designed to educate owners and managers of equestrian establishments, and related professionals, on best practices in business and yard management. It aims to bridge the gap between compliance and non-compliance in the absence of current industry regulation.
Supported by leading industry professionals and recognised associations, YardWise delivers interactive in-person and online events that provide practical guidance on the evolving demands of the equestrian sector.The inaugural event, YardWise: Let’s Talk Business, will take place on 19th November 2025 in Royal Leamington Spa.


SEIB Judging Panel & Yard Awards
In 2023, Cheryl played an active role in the organisation and judging panel for the 2023 Yard of the Year Awards, held in conjunction with SEIB, British Equestrian, and Horse & Hound, recognising excellence within the industry. Since then, she has been involved in the development of these awards and will support their relaunch in 2026 as part of a new industry collaboration, aimed at celebrating outstanding standards and business practices across equestrian establishments and professionals throughout the UK.

Cheryl Johns and LiveryList have been widely featured across both print and digital media. Cheryl contributes regularly as a features writer for Horsemart and Everything Horse Magazine, focusing on yard ownership and equestrian business management. She is frequently invited as an industry expert for articles and interviews in Horse & Hound, Your Horse, Horse and Rider UK, and BBC Regional Radio. In addition, Cheryl participates in panel discussions, webinars and presentations, sharing insights on key industry issues. Her expertise continues to inform and influence discussions across the equestrian sector.


Campaign Ambassadors
LiveryList is also proud to act as a brand ambassador for key industry campaigns, including Strangles Awareness Week, KBHH Keeping Horses Healthy, Equine Flu Awareness Weeks, British Equestrian Equine Health Week, and the BETA Summer of Safety. We believe that campaigns like these not only promote fundamental best practices in yard management and equine welfare, but also allow us to provide valuable guidance and support to our network of yard owners.
Industry Network
In 2016, we launched the Facebook group “Livery Yard Owners UK: Discussions and Advice”, which now has over 3,500 verified members. The group provides real-time guidance and support to owners of equestrian establishments across the UK and beyond. It offers a unique space for yard owners to access information and resources—often directing members to the Yard Owner Hub for further guidance—while also creating a valuable community for industry professionals to gain insight into the needs, challenges, and perspectives of yard owners across all aspects of yard management.
