Keysoe International has announced the launch of its EQUISS initiative in March 2026, aiming to address significant safeguarding shortfalls within the equestrian industry.
The move comes amid growing concern over reports of sexual assault, bullying, exploitation, and other forms of interpersonal harm affecting people of all ages across all sectors of the sport.
EQUISS UK seeks to establish and uphold international standards for recognising, responding to, and managing interpersonal harm. The initiative will adopt a trauma-informed approach, combining professional standards with expertise in risk, safeguarding, protection, legal requirements, and recovery support.
Through its helpline, advocacy services, and case management, EQUISS UK will liaise with police, local authorities, national federations, and other community services to provide support and guidance. Its training and consultancy division will work with businesses, affiliated bodies, and associations to embed safeguarding into daily operations.
Keysoe International hopes the initiative will drive meaningful change across the equestrian sector, ensuring that standards of safety, protection, and professional conduct are consistently applied.
In the meantime, anyone seeking assistance or wishing to speak to a trained professional can contact helpcentre@equissuk.org to arrange a confidential call.
